Heather Garcia - Blood Red Darkness
I took a picture of the sun setting. This was taken from the Nikon D3100 with a 300mm lens, aperture setting of 5.6 and ISO of 100. The picture was taken at the Yelm Walmart parking lot. This histogram shows that this picture is under exposed. I like that the sky turned to such a deep red and the trees and telephone lines have become silhouettes. I would have liked more definition in the silhouettes and should have turned my ISO up to have allowed more light in.
Great silhouette pic and good job Heather in having your camera with you to get the shot. I agree with your comments. I wonder about moving the moon up a bit vertical and a little to the left?
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Nice composition. I don't know if the "rule of thirds" applies because the sun is so far low and right but I think that's what makes it more powerful. I love simple image with subtle complexity of foreground. Well done! Steve O'Neill
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to get a setting sun to look like anything but a bright yellow spot - bravo on getting the deeper yellow/orange colors! I also like the rust-red of the sky, and the silhouettes, and think that having the low horizon was a good choice. What would have happened if you had moved a bit to your right, so that the utility pole was not cutting the sun in half?
ReplyDeleteI'm really envious of you cuz I've been trying to get this type of picture and haven't been close to successful! I like the silhouettes as they are and don't think more definition is necessary. After all there is a mysterious element to the picture. I agree with other comments about placing the sun so the telephone pole is less prominent. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI would like to comment about the telephone pole. It looks to me like where you stood to take the picture was a conscious choice. The position of the pole, including the smaller verticle lines, along with the limbs, ADDS to the effect and composition. It's not boring! I really like it just the way it is. Steve O'Neill
